What the Filipino is like: Beliefs and Traditions on Selected Filipino Plays

Its been a part of our Philippine culture and history to have its unique traditions and beliefs that have been passed from generations to generations. And many of our great Filipino authors have made many remarkable master pieces that brought pride to our country because of their Plays which has showed the evidence that Filipinos really pays importance to our country's culture that it have been a part of their every life.

"The World is an Apple", a play written by Alberto Flotentino. This is a story of how social status can affect one's life by doing everything just to have one's desire. A story which shows the great boundary between the rich and the unfortunate ones, and how money can rule a person's life. The story is played by Mario, a father, his wife Gloria and their daughter, Tita. Their family happens to belong in the lower bracket of the society. Despite of their burdens, Gloria still remain to be a person of faith and good virtues. She believed that no matter what happened, God will always be there for them. Gloria pleaded Mario to do so, but because of  his desire to provide his family sufficient needs, he drove himself to do such wrong things just to get  what he desires.

"New Yorker in Tondo", a play written by Marcelino Agana. It is a story of acculturation. A story starring a girl who went to New York and had acquired all the customs the place have. Upon going home, specifically in Tondo after a year, it happened that she wasn't able to accept her life back in Tondo that it have been very difficult for her to adjust; in her own home! She even influenced her mother with her ways of living back in New York.

"The Three Rats", an unlikely story of love, betrayal and friendship.A play written by Wilfrido Maria Guerrero,an outstanding Filipino playwright. This is a story  which have shown the unfaithful and dishonest side of a person. Starring Gonzalo,Nita his wife, and his known to be best friend, Adrian. When Gonzalo discovered that Nita and Adrian is having an affair, Gonzalo haven't had a second thought but to take revenge. It is true that,"The saddest thing about betrayal is that it never comes from your enemies." And for me,it's trust, respect and loyalty that makes a successful relationship.

And If the Heart Can Not Love
By Jose Garcia Villa

And if the heart can not love
death can not cure it nor sleep
no splendor of wound the heart
had no sound

Bloom has escaped it and
birth the miraculous flower
and music and speech leave
it unbewitched

God it can not spell nor sun
nor lover the beautiful word
and it has no sound no sound
nor wound

The forlorn (My poem)

There it rests. Round her neck.
Blood filled. Blood Stained.
Blood soaked.
Yes. It stood there.
The  silent witness.

She was young.Innocent  back then.
Likely to dispel gloom,blithesome.
Her provider, a beldam, gave it to her.
Tightly,twas there.
The sole witness.

The damsel grew weary and plain.
Achieved what life has to offer.
Faced life. Its saturnine and eupeptic facets.
Still. It stood there.
The muted witness.

One nostalgic day came.
Thoughts rushed.Thoughts drew;
Paranoia covered her ears.
But still, serene. It stood there,
The taciturn witness.

It's clear; Life,no point at all.
Living, inane ; empty.
Resolved for it to end,
Prompt a shiv in hand.
Throat ripped. Blood splattered.
There,round her blood-bathed neck,
Worn still, the idle witness..
